UCFast came into play last Knight against Cincinnati

If you turned on the UCF game last night on ESPNU and were expecting to see UCF vs Cincinnati you were greeted by a scroll on the bottom that says coverage will be shown on the watchespn app. That is because Western Michigan and Buffalo were entering their 6th Overtime of the night. So in the rush to go to watchespn and pull the game, you may have missed the first touchdown of the game because UCF struck fast, within the first 90 seconds. You can see the all the big plays here. The game was not much of a contest as UCF was in control early and often, there is still room for improvement as the defense looked a little sloppy with missed tackles and dumb penalties. A huge thunderstorm canceled out the rest of the third and all of the 4th quarter, which led to UCF’s first 4-0 start since 1988.

In my preview, I said the Knights would have to win on the ground in order to beat Cincinnati because Cincinnati is #1 in pass Defense in our conference. Well, I have no problem admitting I was wrong as UCF game out the gate airing it all out on offense leading to big play after big play and a 20-7 first quarter lead.  Tre’quan Smith would end up with 3 receiving touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown on the night. UCF would cruise to a 3 quarter victory 51-23 after the rain canceled the 4th quarter.  There were some things as always that need to be improved and that was the defense they were very sloppy with tackling and penalties and if UCF wants to win the AAC title that will need to be worked on and improved.  McKenzie Milton who was added to the Maxwell List for top QB in the nation only cemented his name there with this performance as he was 16-19 for 374 yards and 5 TDs.

Next up for the Knights is the Pirates of East Carolina University, this is the homecoming game and will have a “space” theme to it. In my opinion, UCF should be very close to the top 15 if not just outside of it, I would rank them above Miami, USF, and the Gators just to name a few from the state. Probably will be more along the high teens to 20 though.
