Philadelphia Flyers 2017-18 Season: Rebirth Of The Broad Street Bullies?

Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, and the rest of the Philadelphia Flyers are yet another team that is coming into the season with virtually the same players as last year. Usually, when a team has success, or when management is happy, a team will go into a new season with the same nucleus as years past.

Along with the aforementioned players, Shayne Gostisbehere will also look to play a prominent role on this team. With the Flyers carrying eight defensemen (more than likely), Gostisbehere will do just that. And with the help of Gostisbehere and others, new draft pick Nolan Patrick should have an easy transition into the big leagues.

Furthermore, with the departure of defensemen Nick Cousins and Michael Del Zotto, fans will see a slight change on the Flyers’ backend. The same could be said for the goalie position in Philadelphia. With that said, here is a list of players who have arrived in Philadelphia.

New Additions To Philadelphia Flyers:
Jori Lehtera: Acquired In Brayden Schenn trade.
Nolan Patrick: Drafted in this past NHL Entry Draft.
Brian Elliott: Signed 2-year contract during free agency period.

And with new additions, as we all know, may come some subtractions. Here is a list of Flyers departures.

Flyers Departures:

Pierre- Edouard Bellemare: Taken by Vegas in the expansion draft.
Nick Cousins: Traded to Arizona.
Brayden Schenn: Traded to Blues for Jori Lehtera.
Steve Mason: Signed contract with Winnipeg Jets.
Michael Del Zotto: Signed contract with Vancouver Canucks.

As anyone can see, this team has a very talented roster. From top to bottom, this team has a nice ratio of talent to youth. The success of this team is anyone’s guess, as the NHL’s Eastern conference is also talented as a whole. However, the team has built some talent and managed to mix it with various skill sets. The Philadelphia Flyers should be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
