UCF Knights Stake their claim in the AAC East Division
Well, we heard about this new era of football at UCF for a while now but Scott Frost has shown he has made the changes and this isn’t your George O’Leary UCF Knights anymore. Again not taking anything away from GOL, but this team is fun to watch. They are explosive, energetic, gritty and they are all having fun playing football which is what Coach Frost wanted to instill in them since day 1 of arriving on campus. Last nights victory was another statement win for the team as they took down preseason favorites Memphis 40-13.
How did they win the game last night, Well if you remember after the FIU game the things I said had to improve for the Knights were 1) running the ball 2) The secondary had to be better and 3) The kicking game had to improve. Here is the link in case you missed it.
Well let’s go back to last nights game did the Knights fix their running game? The answer was a resounding yes to the tune of 350 yards rushing including this 96-yard burst from Adrian Killians. AK47 big 96-yard TD run.
So that moves us on to number 2 on that list above which was the secondary need to play better and they not only limited one of the best offenses in the nation to 7 points (I know they actually scored 13 but the last touchdown was as time expired in the 4th quarter.) but they also forced Riley Ferguson to throw 3 interceptions and held them to 321 yards in the air and 75 on the ground.
The last and final thing they need to fix was the kicking game/special teams, well Matthew Wright and Mac Loudermilk did an excellent job keeping the ball away from one of the most dangerous returners in the nation in Tony Pollard who already has 2 Returns for TD’s this season and had 2 last season.
So whats next for the UCF Knights well after back to back statement wins and being ranked in the top 25, UCF will travel to Cincinnati to take on a Bearcats team that is rejuvenating their program as well. All conference games are tough so there will be no room to sleep on this Cincinnati team but hopefully, Coach Frost can keep the guys grounded and have them ready to go and continue to win games in hopes that they will end up in an NY6 bowl at the end of the season. One thing that is for certain this UCF defense is exactly as advertised Fast and Fierce and they are not taking anyone lightly.Follow @Espowrites
