Miami Marlins: Giancarlo Stanton could be out the door
The Miami Marlins are wrapping up the 2017 season like they have other years, below .500. You could make the argument that the one positive note for them this season has been the offense they have been getting from Giancarlo Stanton. During the 2017 season, Stanton has hit 59 home runs,130 runs batted in, and had a batting average of .281. Those are very impressive numbers that should give him some votes for the NL MVP award.
However, he may be out of Miami for nothing that is going with the on the field things. It seems that he is not a fan of the new ownership who has plans on rebuilding. The Marlins were recently bought by a team that was lead by Derek Jeter. He recently sat down with Fan Rag’s Jon Heyman and said to Heyman after being asked about the Marlins future, “I don’t want to rebuild…I’ve lost for seven years.” The feeling around baseball is you can not blame him. Since he has been with the Miami Marlins organization, they have never been in the playoffs and they have not had a winning season. When you have someone who has the power like Stanton, you want to go to a team that has a chance to win the World Series.
However, the reason why he has stayed in Miami and why I don’t see him moving out as much as he wants to is because of his massive contract. Back in 2015, he signed a mega-deal with the Marlins that saw him ink a contract for thirteen years and being worth $325,000,000. He will make roughly $25 million per season. There are only a few teams who could trade for him and pay him a large amount of money he is owed. I think it is worth mentioning that his contract is guaranteed. The few happen to be the Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox to name a few.
Personally, I don’t see them moving him to any of those teams because none of them need help in the outfield. It’s been known for some time that the Yankees are planning on signing free gen after the 2018 season that includes Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and other big names. If for some reason the Yankees can’t bring one of them in then maybe they would look at Stanton.
