NCAA: The Black Cloud continues to linger
It seems that the NCAA has another scandal on their plate. As it has been reported by various media sites, four assistant NCAA coaches have been arrested for being involved in a corruption scandal. The four individuals who were mentioned in court documents were Chuck Person of Auburn, Emanuel Richardson of the University of Arizona, Tony Bland of USC, and Lamont Evans of Oklahoma State. It is also being reported that an Adidas Executive is also part of the group of people who were arrested. All of them are in federal custody and were expected to appear in front of a judge on Tuesday.
This happens to bring a bit of a shock among the NCAA world. Unfortunately, the other scandals that have hit the NCAA field have been with the players. Personally, I don’t recall the last time a scandal hit the world of NCAA where it was coaches. It seems that the NCAA can not get out of the way of having a black cloud hanging over them. The addition of the Adidas Executive adds another interesting level to this whole situation. It will be interesting to see if Adidas sees any impact on sales due to this scandal.
According to reports, the FBI has been looking into the criminal influence of money on coaches and student-athletes. There were some details released in regards to the investigation and some alarming things did come up. Apparently, there were numerous times where bribes were paid to athlete advisers. This was done so that the athletes could get better treatment as they went into the NBA. What I am curious to see is what happens to these programs once more details come out. I only say that because we are not made aware of if it goes beyond the coaches.
