Robert Kraft releases poignant statement on Trump

Robert Kraft, Chairman and CEO of the New England Patriots, decided to pen a statement regarding President Donald Trump’s recent blabbering regarding his thoughts on NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem.

Though Kraft is considered to be an acquaintance of President Trump, the intelligence and thoughtfulness put into this statement shows his “dislike” for Trump’s recent words.

I was recently asked about my thoughts regarding NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. The father of a classmate of mine from high school, Gus Wagenaar, father of Scott Wagenaar, posed the question on my Facebook page.

Gus Wagenaar What do you think about some of the athletes that won’t stand during the pledge Dave?

Dave Peters Well, as opposed to giving my view, I’ll refer to what a Marine veteran told me when I asked him what he thought about it. “I put my life on the line so that people were afforded the right to speak their minds, without being trampled on by those with different opinions,” the Marine vet told me over a few beers at a local watering hole.
As for my direct opinion on the matter, I was pissed off at first, but after talking to many men and women who have served our country, I have done a complete 180. I have also paid more attention as to WHY the players are doing this. Though I would never be able to kneel during the National Anthem, I support those who do, and the message behind WHY they’re doing it. #OneLove
Again, I was originally upset about players kneeling during the National Anthem, but that was before I took the time to find out why the players were doing so. After realizing that the players were kneeling in order to show that they refused to stand for the Anthem while countless racial injustices still go ignored and untreated, it became clear to me that what the players were doing was not only their right, but the right thing to do.
This is a subject that will not be going away any time soon, as the world we live in today is not nearly as advanced as many folks would like to think it is; especially when it comes to the narrow-minded thinking behind racism in today’s society. Sadly, racism is alive and well, and the players in the NFL who are kneeling have refused to sweep this topic under the rug. Their stance on the matter should be well-received and respected.
