Toledo Rockets Football: Three Keys For A Victory Against the Miami Hurricanes

The Toledo Rockets (3-0) will travel to Coral Gables for a matchup against the Miami Hurricanes (1-0). This will be the Rockets biggest test of the season, as Miami is Nationally ranked and eager to get back on the field after two weeks of inactivity. What does Toledo need to do in order to steal a victory from Miami?

1. Stop Mark Walton
Arguably one of the best RB’s in the Nation, Walton is going to be a tough test for the Rockets defense. The Junior rushed for 148 yards on 16 attempts during the Hurricanes Week 1 win over Bethune-Cookman. Jawuan Woodley will need to keep a close eye on Walton throughout the game. In addition, Olasunkanmi Adeniyi will be key off the defensive line, as he is the leader in tackles among the front four.

2. Can Toledo attack the Hurricanes secondary?
Toledo Rockets QB, Logan Woodside, has a lot of weapons in the Toledo offense. Cody Thompson and Diontae Johnson have combined for 34 receptions this season. Miami allowed the top two receivers of Bethune-Cookman a whopping 19 receptions in Week 1. Both Thompson and Johnson will kill on the short yardage and deep ball. Woodside is perfect QB to attack the Hurricanes secondary. This could be a big advantage for the Rockets.

3. Don’t take the foot off the gas pedal
Toledo could very well outscore Miami in the first half. If that’s the case, the Rockets can’t let Miami back into the game. Keep attacking the team’s secondary and rush defense. Miami is coming off a 2-week layoff, they will be rusty in the beginning. A fast start will set the pace for the game.

Beating the Hurricanes in Miami is no easy task. It will be an emotional game for the Canes. The effects of Irma are still a reality for many in the area. Toledo needs to stay focused and not get rattled by any Miami offensive surge. Getting out of the gate strong is a necessity.

The Toledo Rockets have the team to beat the Hurricanes. They are one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Beating a top-25 team would be a huge stepping stone for them, possibly earning them a top-25 ranking in the process.
