CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Football: Pack succumb to four turnovers
The CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the West Texas A&M Buffalos Saturday night in Canyon, Texas. This was the third year in a row that the Pack has lost to the Buffalos.
The ThunderWolves dominated the first half. They were led by sophomore RB Austin Micci. He scored all three of the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves TDs. He would finish the game with 79 yards on 20 carries. This is all that the Pack would be able to muster on the ground, however.
The CSU-Pueblo passing game was working well in the first half too. Junior QB Brandon Edwards was having his way with the West Texas defense. He would often find his WRs wide open in the secondary. This would help lead the Pack down the field and set up Micci’s three scores.
The CSU-Pueblo defense would dominate the first half as well. They would not allow the Buffalos much yardage. They would look like the defense that stepped up in their week 1 performance against the Colorado School of Mines.
The second half of the ball game would be a different story for the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The defense of West Texas would make adjustments at halftime and change the course of the game. The Pack offense would not be able to do the things they had done in the first half. They would force the ThunderWolves into four-second half turnovers.
The first would come on an interception thrown by Austin Micci on a halfback pass in the third quarter. The second came when Micci fumbled at the 10:40 mark of the fourth. The third turnover came would come Brandon Edwards was sacked. He would fumble on the play at the 6:30 mark of the fourth.
The fourth and final turnover would come on the Pack’s next drive attempt. With the game tied at 21, Edwards would look for a pass across the middle. West Texas linebacker Trevor Myklebust would step in front and steal the pass. This would lead to the game winning FG by Alex Schrag.
The Buffalos would score on three of the four turnovers from the ThunderWolves.
