C-USA Football: Big Wins Come Against Rivals This Weekend
C-USA had some pretty big games, inside the conference, during week 2 of the NCAA football season. Here is a quick look back at those games.
Alcorn State 10 @ Florida Intl 17
Although FIU started out slow and turned the ball over, the defense was able to capitalize and win the game for FIU.
Charlotte 7 @ #19 Kansas State 55
Charlotte attempted to stay in this game, but with under 150 total yards of offense, along with two turnovers for touchdowns, Kansas State ran away with this game early.
Florida Atlantic 14 @ #9 Wisconsin 31
The Night Owls were somewhat close in the first half of this game, but after Wisconsin put up the final touchdown in the third quarter, then neither team scored afterward, handing FAU their second loss.
UAB 31 @ Ball State 51
UAB was able to stay in this game for a majority of the time, yet Ball State scored 20 unanswered and allowed Ball State to run away with a win.
Old Dominion 17 @ UMass 7
The score may have been low, but the defense was a major component to the win. With Old Dominion having EIGHT sacks in the game, UMass was unable to get rolling offensively.
Middle Tennessee 30 @ Syracuse 23
While Mid Tenn was the major underdog in this game, they went on a scoring spree with Syracuse and ended up completing the upset for their first win of the season.
Marshall 20 @ NC State 37
Marshall was going tit for tat with NCS and was only down by three at halftime. NC State ended up running away with the game in the second half, and Marshall was unable to continue to score with NC State.
North Texas 32 @ SMU 54
North Texas was trying to compete with SMU, but with multiple turnovers, SMU ran away with the game.
Southern 0 @ Southern Mississippi 45
Southern Miss ran away with this game early, and never looked back. With Southern Miss scoring 28 points in the first quarter, Southern was unable to obtain a rhythm to get started.
Mississippi State 57 @ Louisiana Tech 21
LTech got up early on Miss St, but when Miss St scored 36 unanswered, LTech was unable to bounce back.
UT San Antonio 17 @ Baylor 10
Upset of the season, so far, was UTSA able to beat Baylor by 7 points. UTSA obtained their first win against a Power 5 school ever and did it by being able to force Baylor having turnovers.
Rice 31 @ UTEP 14
Rice obtained the lead early and left UTEP scoreless until they finally scored late in the second half. UTEP was unable to obtain their first win of the season as Rice ran away with the game early.
Western Kentucky 7 @ Illinois 20
WKU was unable to get started offensively, and Illinois took advantage early and played heavy defense to ensure Illinois got the win.
The most exciting win was for UTSA as they beat a Power 5 team for the first time in school history. With some teams losing in close games, and other teams shutting out opponents, C-USA teams had somewhat of a successful weekend.
