C-USA Football: What to Watch For This Week
With such an underwhelming week last week throughout the C-USA schedule, this week should be a lot more interesting with great in conference matchups and two Top 25 matchups. With the beginning of the season being make-or-break for potential future bowl games, this week’s matchups are outlined below:
Alcorn State vs. Florida Intl
After an unimpressive loss last week, FIU is looking to rebound against Alcorn State. Expect a high scoring game, and a lot of bad defensive plays, as FIU is able to get their first win of the season.
Charlotte @ #19 Kansas State
Charlotte attempted to play a solid game last week but was unable to stop committing turnovers. Charlotte will need to do that and a lot more to have a chance at beating Kansas State who is coming off of a big win from last week.
Florida Atlantic @ #9 Wisconsin
After Lane Kiffin was unable to provide a win for his debut game, he will have his work cut out against him in Wisconsin. Kiffin is known for a high scoring offense from Alabama but will have to determine who his starting quarterback is going forward to determine how the season will go.
UAB @ Ball State
After such success in their first game back at UAB, the team is looking to ride the wave against Ball State, as Ball State was robbed of a potential overtime game after having a field goal blocked.
Old Dominion @ UMass
Old Dominion is looking to keep the winning streak alive, while UMass is looking to finally win one of their matches. UMass has lost the last two close games by mistakes in the second half, and Old Dominion is looking to capitalize on those mistakes to ensure a win.
Middle Tennessee @ Syracuse
After being blown out by Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee is looking to avoid another loss. But after Syracuse just blew out their previous opponent, it is going to be a tough challenge for Mid Tenn.
Marshall @ NC State
Both teams were in a close game last week, yet Marshall was the only team that emerged victorious. NC State is looking for revenge in their first home game of the season, and Marshall is going to have to avoid turnovers to win this game.
North Texas @ SMU
Both teams dominated their previous match, blowing the team out by more than 40 points. Expect a high scoring match, and although SMU is favored, don’t count North Texas out at all.
Southern @ Southern Mississippi
SMiss is looking for redemption after the tough loss against UK last week. They should be able to wipe out Southern with no problem, and a good confidence booster going back into next week.
Mississippi State @ Louisiana Tech
Expecting a high scoring game as both teams put over 40 points against their opponent. While Miss State has the advantage, expect a shootout from LTech.
UT San Antonio @ Baylor
UTSA is getting their first game this season, and against an upset Baylor after getting upset in the first week. UTSA may be able to get some points, but Baylor may run away with this one.
Rice @ UTEP
After both teams were embarrassed in their opening matches against ranked teams, the two face off this week. UTEP may be the favorite, but I like Rice to sneak in a win to get them back to square one.
Western Kentucky @ Illinois
Honestly, whoever wins this game has a chance at breaking the Top 25 to be ranked. WKU has the better offense and should be able to get in stride early and win this game.
There are a lot of good games this week, so make sure you pull up your favorite snack and watch the C-USA takes on the second week of the NCAA season.
