Kansas City Chiefs: Breakout Candidate – Tyreek Hill
The Kansas City Chiefs offense in 2016 was dynamic. Although it was only dynamic because of the play of one rookie. He a multi-dimensional player who could run like the wind and beat the pants off a secondary. This player should have a breakout year in 2017. We are of course talking about WR Tyreek Hill.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Tyreek Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Garden City Community College, Oklahoma State University, and the University of West Alabama. He would become the first player selected from the University of West Alabama since 1974.
Hill has ridiculous speed. He was a track star in high school, at Garden City, and at Oklahoma State. He holds OSU records for the indoor 60 and 200 meters. This is what intrigued teams about Hill coming out of college. Many scouts thought that he would be an excellent return man. Along the lines of former Chief, return specialist Dante Hall.
Tyreek Hill is also very light on feet. He has the ability to make one man miss and take the ball to the house. This, coupled with his speed, allow him to blow the tops off the defense. In 2016, he showed all facets of his game as a rookie.
In 2016, Hill caught 61 passes for 593 yards and 6 TDs. He also carried the ball 24 times for 267 yards and 3 TDs. This was just part of his game that impressed the Chiefs brass.
Tyreek Hill is also an excellent return man. In 2016, he had 39 punt returns for 592 yards and 2 TDs. He had 14 kickoff returns for 384 yards and 1 TD.
As a rookie Hill won several awards. He played on the 2016 AFC Pro Bowl team, the Associated Press voted him an All-Pro, PFWA selected him to their All-Rookie Team, and he led the NFL in punt return yards. All of this as a rookie.
The emergence of Tyreek Hill is a reason why the Kansas City Chiefs decided to release Jeremy Maclin. However, this now means that this young kid will need to produce at a higher level. There is no room for failure. Hill will have solid numbers and be better in 2017. That is why Tyreek Hill is the 2017 Breakout Candidate for the Kansas City Chiefs.
