Columbus Blue Jackets: It Would Make Sense To Sign Jaromir Jagr
Should the Columbus Blue Jackets sign Jaromir Jagr?
With the 45-year-old looking for a team, the Jackets could be an ideal landing spot. For starters, he’d be in the same division as the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team his storied career started with. Although, that’s not the only reason he’d be good for Columbus.
With the trade for Artemi Panarin, the Blue Jackets look like one of the favorites to win the Metro Divison. What better way to make their new superstar comfortable than by giving him fellow Russian, Jagr, to play on a line with. It’s going to make Panarin’s move to Columbus a lot smoother.
Above all else, Jagr can still produce. He scored 46 points for the Florida Panthers last season. It’s production the Jackets will need as they look towards the playoffs. He’s a depth option for Columbus that gives them a very intimidating roster.
With Scott Hartnell gone, the Jackets lose a veteran leader from the locker room. Jagr is the ultimate veteran. His experience will only add to the core of vets the Jackets have with Brandon Dubinsky and Nick Foligno. Jagr proved to be the glue of the Florida Panthers last season, and there’s no denying the impact he’d have on Columbus.
Jagr should slot in on the teams first line with Panarin and Alexander Wennberg. Both are up and coming stars in the NHL. It would be similar to his pairing in Florida, with two youngsters that will thrive under his leadership and guidance. Jagr would be the glue to the team’s second power play unit. Which the Jackets need, as they were one of the best power play teams in the league last season.
The Columbus Blue Jackets need to add one more piece to their roster. After striking out in free agency, the addition of Jagr would be perfect for a team that needs to add capable and reliable scorers and leaders. Jagr fits the bill perfectly and should be considered a priority for Columbus.
