Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Offensive Player Spotlight – Mike Evans
As stated in the overall offense preview the Buc’s will have one of if not the best offenses in the NFL. That being said the player in which I will keep an eye on is wide receiver, Mike Evans. Just like Lavonte David on the defense Evans may be one of the most underrated players at his position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He’s easily a top five receiver in the NFL and should be in the discussion as to who is the best with the Antonio Brown’s, OBJ’s, and Julio Jones’ of the NFL. Evans and Jones, in my opinion, are the two best possession receivers in the league.
Mike Evans is only entering his fourth year in the NFL and is already an elite receiver. The chemistry between Evans and quarterback Jameis Winston is only getting better and better each season. Plus the Buc’s added OJ Howard, and Chris Godwin in the draft, and signed DeSean Jackson this offseason. That means Evans can really ball out without being doubled too much due to the depth they’ve added.
During his first three seasons, Evans has eclipsed 1,000 yards in each of them and has put up double digit touchdown marks in two of them. He’s averaging 15 yards per catch as well. To put that into perspective Antonio is averaging 13.3 yards per catch, Odell Beckham Jr averages 14.3, and Julio tops them all at 15.3 yards a catch. Now obviously both Jones and AB have had longer NFL careers but regardless of that Evans is the next big thing at the receiver position.
Unfortunately, Mike Evans gets overlooked a lot because of some of the other notable names in his draft class Odell Beckham Jr at pick 12, Kelvin Benjamin at 28, and Jarvis Landry at 63. However, Evans has outperformed almost all of them. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Evans have 1,200 yards this year, and 10 plus touchdowns while leading the Buccaneers back to the promised land called the NFL Playoffs.
