Cincinnati Bengals – Breakout Candidate – Tyler Boyd
The Cincinnati Bengals have a ton of weapons and depth on the offensive side of the ball. However, there are still some questions surrounding the team. Who is the number two receiver behind AJ Green being the biggest? My answer is also my breakout player Tyler Boyd. Sounds somewhat weird to be calling for a breakout season out of a player who had 600 plus yards last season; however, I am expecting the Bengals to use him more effectively this season.
Boyd is going into his second year of professional football and honestly surprised me a bit last season. Some people thought his frame was too small for the NFL style however, he proved them wrong. He had 54 receptions for 603 yards and one touchdown. Respectable stats for a rookie, however, I truly believe head coach Marvin Lewis will utilize Boyd’s athleticism to Andy Dalton’s benefit this season. Many people thought the drafting of John Ross at the ninth overall pick would limit the field time Boyd and others see however, I do not think it will affect him that much.
The 6’2” Boyd along with All-Pro AJ Green could be one of the top receiving corps in football this season. The Pitt product showed how much of an asset he could be. Now imagine the numbers he could put up with a healthy AJ Green and Tyler Eifert for a full season. Both missed significant time last year with injuries. This only makes the offense better, and deadlier.
Tyler Boyd may not be an All-Pro this season, however, he could be a fantasy steal for those of you fantasy football players. He should be the number two receiver behind Green, and ahead of both John Ross and Brandon LaFell. Look for there to be two 1,000-yard receivers in Cincinnati this season.
