Frisco RoughRiders: Hooks Pitching Keeps Riders Quiet
The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, took a 4-1 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks Thursday night, in the series opener. Cy Sneed, the Hooks starting pitcher, dazzled on the mound as he tossed seven shutout innings. For the RoughRiders, Collin Wiles didn’t look as appealing on the hill, though he did log another quality start. Thursday’s loss was the fourth-straight for the Frisco RoughRiders, who entered the series coming off a three-game sweep by the Midland RockHounds.
Cy Sneed marveled across his seven shutout innings. He allowed six hits and no runs while walking two and striking out one. Offensively for the Hooks, Ryne Birk was the highlight. He finished the night 2-3, with a solo home run and a single that scored one. He accounted for two of the three Corpus Christi RBIs.
For the RoughRiders, Jose Trevino and Royce Bolinger led the offense. Trevino went 3-4, while Bolinger finished 2-4. The only Frisco run came on a throwing error by the Corpus Christi pitcher. It was a tough night for the RoughRiders bats, as the club went 1-7 with runners in scoring position, leaving six total men on base in the matchup.
Wiles now leads the RoughRiders in quality starts, logging his 11th in Thursday’s loss. He went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs (all earned). Wiles walked one and struck out seven while giving up one home run. He took the losing decision, now sitting at 8-9 on the season.
Connor Sadzeck, starter-turned-reliever, took over for Wiles. He threw 2/3 of an inning, allowing no hits and no runs. He struck out one along the way. Joe Filomeno closed out the matchup for the Frisco RoughRiders. He threw two innings, allowed two hits, and gave up one run (unearned) while punching out two batters.
