NBA Free Agency Rumors: Is PG Kyle Lowry Exploring A Super Team in Minnesota?
Minnesota is making major changes this off-season, with the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, if you haven’t heard about this welcome to NBA News, and getting rid of a couple of key players to free up some cap space. With this trade, the Minnesota Timberwolves are now able to make a play at another “superstar” to help exceed the franchise to a deep playoff run this year.
With that being said, rumor has it that the Timberwolves will be making a major push towards Kyle Lowry, to add to the amazing roster that they have already created.
With the Timberwolves having more cap space available, the team will be needing to create their own super team to be able to compete with the Golden State Warriors. With the addition of Kyle Lowry, the Wolves would be able to have a productive and dominant force at Point Guard. While they currently still have Ricky Rubio, Lowry has been inconsistent in the playoffs and sometimes unreliable in clutch situations. This would allow Rubio to come off the bench and help Lowry when he is struggling, or move Rubio or Lowry to Shooting Guard to allow a line up that consist of the following:
C: Karl Anthony Towns
PF: Jimmy Butler
SF: Andrew Wiggins
SG: Kyle Lowry
PG: Ricky Rubio
This line up would allow a type of small ball roster, and the Wolves would primarily need to focus on building a dominant and efficient bench. As mentioned before, with the inconsistency of Lowry, the Wolves would easily be able to negotiate his contract at a lower rate, allowing the Wolves to bring in another key player and continue to build the roster.
If the Timberwolves are unable to sign Kyle Lowry, the Wolves should look into signing Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, or even attempting to trade for Lamarcus Aldridge, KP, or even DeAndre Jordan. At this point, the Wolves are looking to create a super team to match the Warriors, and while this will help, they still need to ensure on building a bench to compete for a NBA Finals chance.
