WWE: Shane McMahon was the original Wrestlemaina opponent for Brock Lesnar

If plans would have not changed at the end of 2016, we could have been seeing Brock Lesnar fight Shane McMahon at Wrestlemania 33. If you recall back to Summerslam 2016, Brock Lesnar was fighting Randy Orton and the match ended after Brock busted up Randy Orton’s face. It got to the point that Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon came down to try and stop the beat down, but ended up getting a F-5 from Lesnar.

Between SummerSlam and Survivor Series, two of the bigger shows for the WWE, there were backstage discussions of having Shane McMahon having a feud with Brock Lesnar that would see the pay off come at Wrestlemania. The two ideas that were being thrown around behind the scenes of WWE were there to be a straight one-on-one match between McMahon and Lesnar and the other one is that Shane McMahon chooses someone to represent him in the match. The two names that were being thrown around were Samoa Joe or Goldberg. They would have used this to have Samoa Joe debut at Wrestlemania. However, when Goldberg returned and got a positive reaction from the fan base the WWE decided to take Shane out of the picture.

It should be worth noting that Shane McMahon is set to have a match against AJ Styles at Wrestlemania. Brock Lesnar is set to face Goldberg for the WWE Universal Title at Wrestlemania after Goldberg defeated Owens at Fastlane. It is a safe to say that Samoa Joe has made a huge impact since he was called up to the main roster as he has taken Seth Rollins out of commission for the last month and has had matches with Sami Zayn, Roman Reigns, and Cesaro. It should be worth noting that originally WWE had Samoa Joe as the one to give Braun Strowman his first lost. Also it should be worth noting that as the seeds continue to get planted, Samoa Joe will likely be in some sort of heel faction with Kevin Owens and Triple H.

I have kind of a mix feeling on the direction that WWE decided to go with Shane McMahon and Brock Lesnar heading into their biggest stage of the year.
