Branden Albert to Jacksonville but not for Julius Thomas

The Miami Herald is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade Branden Albert to the Jaguars for a 2018 late round draft pick.  It is pending on Branden Albert showing up in Jacksonville and signing an extension for his contract.  He is currently in Jacksonville and is working on signing the extension. Now the Julius Thomas part of the deal is not dead as this is also a contract issue.  But the team is reporting that this will not be a player for player deal. The dolphins want to acquire Thomas but it will be in a separate deal as this one is practically finished.

This deal will help strengthen the Jaguars offensive lines which ranked a pitiful 22nd last season.  For the Dolphins this deal would help them free up about $7.2 Million in cap space.  The Dolphins hoping that Branden Albert can regain his all-pro form that made him the 15th overall pick in the 2008 draft.  Since signing a 5 year $47 Million deal with the Dolphins Branden Albert has not lived up to his potential.

That was clearly evident this past season as the season went on the worse Albert got.  Culminating with an embarrassing performance in the Wild Card game against the Steelers and James Harrison.  Jacksonville is hoping that their offensive line coach will be able to help Branden Albert reach his full potential.

Branden has already approved the trade to Jacksonville it’s now just a matter of working out the numbers for the contact extensions. He went to Jacksonville to talk to the team leaders to transition the move up I-95.   Had Albert not gone trade would not be made and he would have ultimately been cut by the March 9th deadline.
